Don’t Tell Me, I Already Know: A Collection of Poetry by Laura Bishai, 2017

I designed a booklet of poems by a close friend through an unconventional layout that emphasizes her writing style of long stanzas. The words speak to me personally and I wanted to create a space for them to be read that reflects their confident yet vulnerable tone. The voice often features a young woman thinking about life’s meaning whether it’s about love tribulations or societal perceptions of womanhood. Rather than a traditional orientation, the act of turning the book around reminds of me a map and how we are constantly in a state of self-discovery.
